This a fly reel from the Coates Aircraft Company of British Columbia, Canada. It is believed to have been produced in the 40's. I don't believe there is any relation to the Coates Company of New York. These reels were made in limited quantities and only in a few models. A truly spectacular Canadian reel.

Antique Canadian Bait Manufacturing Fishing Reel
A beautiful reel marked "Master Casting Reel, Bicycle Sales Co, WPG". Patented on 8/7/1923 was found to be made by the Canadian Bait Manufacturing Company. Information about the reel and company was found in a 1930 Winnipeg directory as shown:Canadian Bait Mfg. M.E.W. Never Miss Bait Casting Reel
This interesting bait casting reel has a very simple stamp on the side plate with a fish and the name "By M.E.W./Never Miss/Made in Canada"on the inside...no clue.

2 Bata Trent Valley Reels
These 2 variations of Bata Trent Valley reels were made by the engineering division of the Bata Shoe company in the 40's. The company was located in Batawa, Ontario and they only produced these reels for a very short stint.
