Tiede Enterprises Ltd.Tiede BaitsWindsor, Ontario The group of lures shown below are called "TD Doodlers - The Miracle Lure" from Tiede Enterprises Ltd. out of Windsor, Ontario. A man by the name of Warner Walter Tiede (who died 5 years ago), was granted a patent in 1955 for his TD Doodler bait. The lures were produced in the 50's and would have come in a plastic box with gold lettering. The bass size shown came in a great number of colour variations. He often inverted the colours of the lure so you can often find 2 different lures using the same colours (as shown in the picture with the black and yellow, and white and yellow variants). At the bottom of the picture you can also see the fly rod size doodler, and not shown is the musky size doodler (which is quite large). This company makes it interesting to collect as new colour variations keep sprouting up. It is still unsure as to whether or not all bass size lures had the "bell hardware" as the hardware itself can break quite easily, but the lure can still be rigged with a line without it...pure speculation at this point. After talking to Warner's brother, it should be noted that Warner did not use salesmen and did all of the marketing and promotion himself. There were no records or paperwork remaining after the business officially shut down, and Edward Tiede was convinced that the business never really got off the ground or mass produced. However, after only 6 years of tackle collecting, and discussions with many avid Ontario collectors, I'm convinced that Warren was able to negotiate distribution all over the country as the Doodlers seem to surface regularly. Until documentation can prove otherwise, Tiede Enterprises Ltd. not only created a unique and popular lure, but it was able to market its wares to the rest of the country. | Tiede Metal Lure
Tiede's metal lure - to this point, it has not been officially named. | | Group of Tiede Doodlers
A group of Doodlers in the bass size, with one tiny little fly rod size at the bottom of the page. The musky size lure is missing as I do not have a picture for one, but you would be able to recognize it when you saw it. | Photo courtesy of Bruce Spiers | Great Collection of Tiede LuresShown here is a great collection of Tiede lures from fellow collector Bruce Spiers. |
