Canadian Needle & Fishing Tackle (CNFT) Co.

- which later changed to-

Canada Fishing Tackle and Sports Ltd.

Toronto & Havelock, Ontario

This older Toronto based company (address listed at 70-72 Wellington Street West, Toronto) was in operation from the 20's, to the 60's. It is approximated that in 1932, CNFT expanded its operations by buying out a small fishing tackle company (Wight's Flies- which was operated by Sam Ellis in Havelock, Ontario) and changing the official name of the company to Canada Fishing Tackle and Sports Ltd. During this time, both locations manufactured a nice range of tackle, but it seems like they specialized their own line of products. Much of the research to this date seems to suggest that a great deal of their tackle was manufactured elsewhere. Their wooden baits and boxes look identical to Lucky Strike tackle, and it is assumed that Lucky Strike probably manufactured these items for CNFT. Their metal spoons, spinners and flies seem to be the only truly authentic CNFT items that were manufactured in-house...unless there is evidence to suggest otherwise.

They also took over sole distribution of another line of fishing lures from a company called The Transparent Fishing Tackle Company out of Toronto, Ontario (Or was this just another company they created?)...Refer to the company information for The Transparent Fishing Tackle Company from a little more information on that company.

Canadian Needle & Fishing Tackle Pikie

A nice little pikie type lure that is assumed to be C.N.F.T.  The lip is not stamped with anything, but has amazing similarities to Lucky Strike's signature body style and hardware.  It's pretty hard to suggest that these lures were not produced by Lucky Strike and sent to Canadian Needle for repackaging.

Canadian Needle & Fishing Tackle Metal

A small collection of Canadian Needle metal spinners and spoons to show you the range of their metal line.  Their crescent moon spinners seems to be quite unique to the company.  Most of the metal they produced is stamped with "C" inside a diamond, CNFT or the name DEPENDON.  It has also been called Imperial Brand tackle just to confuse collectors even more.
