Tugg and Mason

Tugg and Mason
Long Branch, Ontario

Thanks to Jack Freeman for the following information about Tugg and Mason:

"...in the 1920s and 30s Harry Tugg sold cars in Toronto under his name and the name Tugg & Welsh. He died in 1937 and his widow continued as President of what was then called Tugg-Mason Ltd selling and servicing cars from Lakeshore Rd in Mimico (Toronto). In about 1945 their business changed to airplane equipment and supplies. The company name and Anna Tugg seem to drop out of sight in 1949. In the mid-30s Anna's brother Eddie Gould had the title of Sec-Treas of Tugg & Mason...Harry and Anna Tugg did not have children, and the Goldhamer family - Anna's maiden name - have all died out.  It is interesting how a corporate name could continue through such dissimilar businesses - lures to cars to airplanes.  In case you noticed, even though the surname was Goldhamer, Anna's brother went by the name Gould."

A collector can often find one of these hook tins at the bottom of an old tackle box, but it is also known that they manufactured fishing reels as well.  They seem to have cornered the market on the idea of selling quantities of different sized hooks for the angler in a convenient carrying tin.

Tugg and Mason Hook Tin

A fairly common Tugg and Mason Limited hook tin that held a variety of hooks in different sizes.  These tins seem to show up in many vintage tackle boxes.
